1st Week Overview

So far my first study abroad trip, and first time out of North America, is great. I am having so much fun, and I have become friends with so many great people. New Zealand is beautiful, and the weather is awesome. I didn't believe people when they told me I would get sun burned, since I never do, but it happened. Putting on sunscreen has now become a daily ritual for me! My birthday was last week, January 5, which was awesome. I can always tell people that I celebrated my 22nd birthday in New Zealand. Since I am an English major, and I am not very familiar with geology or marine studies, I attentively listen to Art and Doug explain different phenomenas and characteristics of the sites we visit. I am learning alot of new facts. I am glad that we were finally able to unpack our suitcases, and get settled in at the University of Waikato. The campus is nice, and there is a great path that I can run on during my stay. My favorite thing we have done so far was going to th! ! e treaty grounds of the Waitangi tribe. The tour guide, Will, had no trouble getting everyone intrigued about the background of New Zealand. I also enjoyed black water rafting. It was definitely an experience I will never forget. I think that everyone in the group is having a blast, and getting along well with one another. Kia ora! Eileen
